Robert Levy resigns as Jamaica Broilers Group chair

Robert Levy resigned from the position of chairman of the Jamaica Broilers Group (JBG) on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, making way for Gregory Shirley to take his place.
Levy's resignation comes after over 17 years of service in that post and more than 67 years working with JBG. Despite his resignation, the board has conferred upon the former chairman the honorary title of director emeritus.
"The board expresses its profound gratitude for his dedication and steadfast commitment and looks forward to the benefit of his continued counsel in his capacity as director emeritus," a statement from JBG noted.
Shirley, who was an independent director for almost 20 years, has assumed the role of chairman with immediate effect. He has served as a board director of several private and public sector organisations in Jamaica. He has also chaired some of them.
JBG's board of directors expressed congratulations to Shirley, adding that it looks forward to his leadership.
Navigating challenges
Levy’s resignation follows a tumultuous year for the Jamaica Broilers Group, which announced “that it had identified several issues related to expense management and operational controls in its US Operations” in June 2025.
Since then, the group has engaged the National Commercial Bank for a refinancing arrangement structured aimed at strengthening its liquidity position. In April 2026, JBG sold assets in Best Dressed Chicken Processing Plant located in South Carolina, USA.
The company will release its financial for the year ended May 2, 2026 on or before Monday, August 31, 2026.
